The BEEN Project organized the ‘Felicitation of Municipalities and Manual Launching Event’ to honor the leadership of 12 pioneering municipalities that have developed and officially approved Energy-Efficient Building Policies. The event was graced by Honorable Prakash Man Singh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Urban Development, and H.E. Veronique Lorenzo, EU Ambassador to Nepal, who jointly felicitated the municipalities for their contributions to sustainable urban development.
These 12 municipalities, spanning three provinces — Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki — have demonstrated exemplary commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of Nepal’s building sector by integrating energy efficiency into local by-laws. Their efforts are setting a new benchmark for climate-responsive urban governance and contributing to a greener, low-carbon future.
The recognized municipalities include:

Dhulikhel Municipality
Changunarayan Municipality
Kamalamai Municipality
Manthali Municipality
Manahari Rural Municipality
Bhimeshwor Municipality
Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality

These local governments have taken bold steps toward aligning urban growth with Nepal’s national and international climate commitments through forward-thinking, energy-efficient building regulations.
